I Am A Princess

This is the beauty of Disney. This is the type of princess that dad's should be teaching their little girls to be. Teach them of the power of family, pride, compassion, love and kindness. Don't teach them that they are better than everyone else or that they will get far because they are "beautiful." Don't teach them to be selfish but to be giving and to have strength. Strength that will benefit others as much, if not more, than it will help themselves. There is still some beauty being taught to today's children. Thank Goodness.

Fleet Foxes - Mykonos (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

"...it’s a little hard to tell what type of animation you’re even looking for the first few seconds of the video. Clearly, so many frames have been dedicated to every little movement that it flows almost perfectly. Directed by Sean Pecknold, the brother of singer Robin Pecknold’s, the video follows the adventures of a pair of triangular feet traversing a two dimensional universe made entirely of paper. Just like South Park! But really, almost nothing like South Park."

Love The Creators Project description of the Mykonos video. Great tune and an equally appealing visual to accompany it.  I almost get the feeling of The Wizard Of Oz sans witches and dancing munchkins. The beginning journey towards the clear superpowers,

followed by a realization and a fall back to reality.

However you look at it, the video is beautifully hand crafted and worth a watch.

Complete MSL Curiosity Descent - Full Quality Enhanced 1080p + Heat Shield impact

Wow, first Full HD video of Curiosity descent onto Mars. Gets mind blowing around the 32 second mark. It's hard for me to wrap my head around but astonishing that this has really happened. Incredible how much the human race has developed. It had me sitting back in awe a lot of the time, once you can see past this created reality and see what's really going on here.

I can't even imagine how he must have been feeling. Such a basic interaction of life between species, yet so extremely special considering how our world works. This made me smile so huge.

Edith Piaf - Non, je ne regrette rien

Piaf dedicated her recording of the song to the French Foreign Legion. At the time of the recording, France was engaged in a military conflict, the Algerian War (1954--1962), and the 1st REP (1st Foreign Parachute Regiment) — which backed a temporary putsch of 1961 by the French military against the civilian leadership of Algeria — adopted the song when their resistance was broken. The leadership of the Regiment was arrested and tried but the non-commissioned officers, corporals and Legionnaires were assigned to other Foreign Legion formations. They left the barracks singing the song, which has now become part of the French Foreign Legion heritage and is sung when they are on parade.

La Vie en rose - Madeleine Peyroux

"La Vie en Rose", (Life in Pink) was the signature song of French singer Édith Piaf.
Édith Piaf first popularized La Vie en Rose in 1946. The lyrics were written by Piaf and the melody of the song by "Louiguy" (Louis Guglielmi). Initially, Piaf's peers and her songwriting team did not think the song would be successful, but it became a favorite with audiences. An English version of the lyrics was written later by Mack David. Owing to its popularity, the song appeared on most of Piaf's subsequent albums.

Madeleine Peyroux (born 1974, Athens, Georgia, USA) is an American jazz singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Peyroux is noted for her vocal style, which has been compared to that of Billie Holiday.

Translated Lyrics

Eyes that make (me) lower mine
A laugh that loses itself on his mouth
Behold the unrefined portrait of the man to whom I belong

When he takes me in his arms
and speaks to me softly
I see life in pink
He utters words of love to me
Everyday words
and something happens inside me

A share of happiness has entered my heart
and I know from where

It's him for me, me for him, in this life
He told me so, swore it forever
And as soon as I see him
Well I feel my heart beating inside me

Nights of love, never ending
Much happiness takes over
Annoyances and troubles disappear
Happy, so happy I could die

When he takes me in his arms
and speaks to me softly
I see life in pink
He utters words of love to me
Everyday words
and something happens inside me

It's him for me, me for him, in this life
He told me so, swore it forever
And as soon as I see him
Well I feel my heart beating inside me

Beck - Sea Change - Lost Cause

Sea Change is one of those albums you can just put on and zone out to. Mellow, dynamic, articulate and moving. Every time I listen to the album it takes me back to 2002 when it came out, and then to 2006 when I really got caught in it's grasp. I also love Nothing I haven't Seen off of this album.

Immortal Technique- Freedom Of Speech

The mister and I watched Pinocchio last night and this kept coming to mind. It really is incredible the amount of detail and the strength of the morals that old Disney movies stood behind. Today's kids need to know what's real, not whats imaginary. Incredible that a cartoon is portraying such real morals when today's TV is nothing but shallow meanderings. Imagine that.

The after effects of Typhoon Vincent are bringing in a deadly wave of pollution to the beaches of Hong Kong. Sacks of pre-production plastic pellets (nurdles) that were lost at sea are covering the coastlines of Hong Kong with this deadly material. Gary Stokes of Sea Shepherd and Tracey Read of DB Green are working to mobilise the Hong Kong Government and people to remove this threat to our marine life.

"Goodbye Old Friend"

Photo and caption by John Chaney
"Elephants are legendary for their memory and intelligence including attributes associated with grief, making music, altruism and compassion. We came across this elephant whose corpse was overcome by vultures and jackals. From a distance we heard and then saw another elephant approaching at a fast pace. She was successful at chasing away the predators and then very slowly and with much empathy wrapped her trunk around the deceased elephants tusk. She stayed in this position for several hours guarding her friend."

Ecclisiastes - TLC

Everything Is Meaningless

The words of the Teacher,[a] son of David, king in Jerusalem:
“Meaningless! Meaningless!”
    says the Teacher.
“Utterly meaningless!
    Everything is meaningless.”
What do people gain from all their labors
at which they toil under the sun?
Generations come and generations go,
    but the earth remains forever.
The sun rises and the sun sets,
and hurries back to where it rises.
The wind blows to the south
    and turns to the north;
round and round it goes,
    ever returning on its course.
All streams flow into the sea,
yet the sea is never full.
To the place the streams come from,
    there they return again.
All things are wearisome,
    more than one can say.
The eye never has enough of seeing,
nor the ear its fill of hearing.
What has been will be again,
    what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.
10 Is there anything of which one can say,
    “Look! This is something new”?
It was here already, long ago;
it was here before our time.
11 No one remembers the former generations,
and even those yet to come
will not be remembered
    by those who follow them.

Wisdom Is Meaningless

12 I, the Teacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
13 I applied my mind to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under the heavens.
What a heavy burden God has laid on mankind!
14 I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless,
a chasing after the wind.
15 What is crooked cannot be straightened;
what is lacking cannot be counted.
16 I said to myself, “Look, I have increased in wisdom more than anyone who has ruled over Jerusalem before me;
I have experienced much of wisdom and knowledge.”
17 Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom, and also of madness and folly,
but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind.
18 For with much wisdom comes much sorrow;
the more knowledge, the more grief.

I suppose this only helps me to understand that life does go on. It doesn't take away the pain, it doesn't take away how much i will miss you, it doesn't take away all of the things you left behind. All it does is tell me that this fucking life is all an illusion. This apartment, this computer, the clouds outside... nothing is real.. .nothing really means anything.. not my job, not what i ate or didn't eat for breakfast. We are stuck in this permanent cycle of meaninglessness crap. You weren't meaningless though. That's what i have to remember. The only REAL is the relationships you have. The people that you care about and the relationships you form. That is real. Always tell the people you love that you love them. Always hug them too long and get in their personal space. Always crack jokes and push them to the edge. Always just be real, be your true soul because you can't take anything back and you can't bring anybody back. So say what you have to say, be exactly who you are... make yourself happy in every moment of your life because it doesn't go on forever. And sooner or later someone will be missing you when you're gone.... The least you can do is make a withstanding impression on them.
You definitely made an impression on me... just to enjoy life and be genuine. . .  I just wish I could have known you longer and enjoyed more time with you and learned more things from you. I won't forget your kindness and fun loving soul though. I know you are watching over your family... I know you are watching over all of us. Thank you for everything. Thanks for just being too damn cool. I will miss you so much.

Cycles South 1971 Motorcycle Adventure

Over the weekend I accidentally found this movie on Netflix. It is by far one of the funniest, coolest, outta sight movies that will make you appreciate life itself and remember to have a little fun every once in a while.

"This 1971 travelogue from filmmaker Don Marshall follows three pals who fuel up their motorcycles in Denver and hit the great highway for the adventure of a lifetime -- a road trip that takes them all the way to Panama. They don't have much cash, but these nomadic spirits still manage to get their thrills while skiing, scuba diving and watching bullfights as they make their way from the States to Central America."

Fact that surprises me the most: It really wasn't that long ago. Enjoy.

Apparently there is nothing that cannot happen today, action speaks louder than words but not nearly as often. A man's character may be learned from the adjectives which he habitually uses in conversation. Move confidently into their midst.

Arrested Drunk Guy Sings Bohemian Rhapsody

The Illustrated man, From My Personal Journal

I don't normally post anything that reflects upon myself as a person, usually just things that grab my attention. I felt the urge to share this little piece of me though, because I believe it's something that every one of us can relate to...
From my own personal journal:

"Sometimes when life changes too fast, it makes my soul lonely. Even if I am in the most beautiful place with the the one that I love and life is just glorious. Sometimes it just feels like something is missing. As if I left a piece of my heart in every place I have ever been and a piece of my mind and soul with every beautiful person I've met along the way.

Maybe the only reason I feel this way is because the memories are all I have to hold on to. Photos and trinkets and thoughts are all I keep with me. I can't keep places I've been in my pocket or people on my bookshelf. All I am left with is a longing... As if these things aren't real and the people were just passerby that became leading characters in my dreams.

It reminds me (the feeling) of an excerpt from Ray Bradbury's 'The Illustrated Man.' I never want to be so cynical or closed off from memories or the world, but the underlying message is a simple human truth. It is as follows:

'You see, you have no mental evidence. That's what i want, a mental evidence I can feel. I don't want physical evidence, proof you have to go out and drag in. I want evidence you can carry in your mind and always touch and smell and feel but there's no way to do that. In order to believe in a thing, you've got to carry it with you. You can't carry the Earth, or a man in your pocket. I want a way to do that, carry things with me always, so i can believe in them.  How clumsy to have to go to all the trouble of going out and bringing something terribly physical to prove something. I hate physical things because they can be left behind and become impossible to believe in.'

I sometimes wish I could bring all of these places and people and experiences together; A cosmic party that is simply my life. I believe to be content and happy in life, is to not yearn for these physical things, but to embody them. The belief that all of the experiences you've had, places you've been and people you've met and loved, are what make up YOU, should bring peace.
Instead of 'going out and bringing something terribly physical to prove something,' emanate it through yourself and how you interact with the world. Let your past be your passport to your future.
Oh, the people you will meet and the places you will go. Entwine all the moments to make up YOU, and never let it burn out.... or fade away."

Kimbra - "Settle Down" [Official Music Video]

Gotye - Hearts A Mess

Pick apart
The pieces of your heart
And let me peer inside
Let me in
Where only your thoughts have been
Let me occupy your mind
As you do mine

You have lost
Too much love
To fear, doubt and distrust
(it's not enough)
You just threw away the key
To your heart

You don't get burned
('Cause nothing gets through)
It makes it easier
(Easier on you)
But that much more difficult for me
To make you see

Love ain't fair
So there you are
My love

Your heart's a mess
You won't admit to it
It makes no sense
But I'm desperate to connect
And you, you can't live like this

Love ain't save
You won't get hurt if you stay chaste
So you can wait
But i don't wanna waste my love

Man Flies Like a Bird Flapping His Own Wings

The following article is from Gizmodo
" I'm really amazed by this video, because I always dreamed about doing this: watch Dutch mechanical engineer Jarno Smeets take off by flapping wings of his own invention—just like a real bird! It's uncanny.
He developed the wings over an 8-month period. They use a special motion mechanism that is controlled by special software controlled by a haptic system. This allows him to literally start flapping his arms while running to take off and fly. Like a real bird! (Yes, I'm going to keep repeating that because this amazes me).
Like a modern Leonardo da Vinci, Jarno's took notes from nature. His inspiration was the albatross, which he closely observed to learn his take of technique:
Just like birds, humans have to amplify their locomotion to get control and get familiar with their new body expansion—the Wings. In my conception this is something which is independent of any hardware of software problem.
So he payed attention and learned how to amplify the motion. It was a success.
This first test took him just over a distance of 328 feet (100 meters) but obviously he's planning to go higher and farther than that. Jarno is ecstatic, he says: "I have always dreamed about this. But after 8 months of hard work, research and testing it all payed off."
I completely understand his excitement. This has been of dream of mine since I was a little kid. Just flap my winds and start hovering above the ground. Flap some more and start going higher and higher. [Human Bird Wings]'

Niagra Falls Freezes 1848

"THE NUMBER one question everyone asks about this set of images is, "Does Niagara Falls ever really freeze over like this?" And the answer is yes. During an extended winter cold snap a hardened crust of ice can accumulate over parts of the falls — American Falls in particular — creating an amazing, naturally-formed ice sculpture, if you will, that has been known to reach a thickness of 50 feet. Neither the river nor the falls ever freezes solid, mind you. The water continues to flow beneath the ice at all times, albeit reduced to a mere trickle on rare occasions when ice jams block the river above the falls."
The photo above: a sepia-toned photograph listed as an Internet find on the website of the Niagara Falls Public Library, is of unknown date and origin, according to the documentation. It also appears on the Niagara Falls Live website, where its placement implies it was taken during the historic freeze of March 1848, when the falls actually "went dry" for a few days due to the formation of an ice dam on Lake Erie.
